Economic immigrants are people selected for their skills and ability to contribute to Canada’s economy, including skilled workers, business immigrants, provincial and territorial nominees and live-in caregivers.
Non-economic immigration programs are designed to help immigrants enter Canada without needing employment or economic support. These programs are based on humanitarian and compassionate considerations, such as family reunification, refugee protection, and other special circumstances.
New permanent residents do not need to apply for a PR card. They will be automatically mailed a PR card when they immigrate to Canada and determine their Canadian mailing address.
